More on work:

Work is no longer as boring as before.
I'm doing telemarketing and sitting at the counter instead of typing away in the small room with a stench of smelly feet lingering in the air.
It's been 3 days since i changed to the seat at the counter and I'm glad to say that i had much more fun and greater interaction with people - the counter staff, walk-in customers and customers who called.
And I'm getting along very well with my colleagues at the counter who happened to be jc students who have just completed their a levels! :D

It's a nice experience at work - for now.

Done this week so far:
- Sent my mini (lousy) laptop for repair
- Fixed my h1n1 vaccination appt- taking tmr!
- Cash in my first pay check =D
- Submitted my volunteer application form!

To get an idea of how small my office is...
I was stretching my back after having sit here for more than an hour.
Just the usual stretch with my arms outstretched sideways.
And i knocked into my colleague beside me.
My wrist hit her head and ruffled through some of her reborn-ed hair.

To get an idea of how small the walkway is...
And the other day i was doing a full rotation of my arms outside the toilet.
And my fingers hit the cabinet, leaving a bruise on my thumb.

To get an idea how boring the work is...
I just finished the pile of Mathematics which i have been typing for the past week.
And today, the boss gave me a whole file of Mathematics, replete with diagrams and figures.
Enough for the next 2 weeks.

Here are the photos of my workplace!

From my perspective

The tution centre.

Walk into my office room.

Reach out for the door...

Approach my seat.

Turn left to look at the clock.

Sits down and get cracking.

Continue my typing..

Hoping for the time to pass fast..

Missing my favourite book...
(...to be continued)

Day 6
I'm so bored at work.
But i've got so much to do.

The day started with me dashing into the office since i was 10 minutes late.
And i saw my boss right at the entrance.
He was talking to a customer but i think he spotted me, or at least my red umbrella.

I talked a lot to my colleagues today.
I think we were all too bored.
Ok 1 more hour to end of work!

Day four:

I haven't taken photos of my office yet!
Shall take later when i'm going for my lunch break! ((:
I'm still quite enthusiastic about my work.
It's fairly simple and less arduous than distributing flyers or doing roadshows or doing sales.

But i think i'll get real bored soon.
Most of the staff here are in their 20s so i'm like the youngest.
And perhaps because of this age gap, i've got nothing much to talk to them about.
I doubt they'll even gossip about other staff mainly because they show up one day, then disappear the next day and appear the following day.
(We're all temporary part-time staff- or so called- even though we may work the same hours as the full-time staff. My brother says it's much cheaper to hire part-time. No CPF and bonus etc. So most of the part-time staff work irregularly and take leave whenever they like.)

Day 5

Ok i'm starting to talk more to my colleagues.
Most of us are new around in our work so today is like day when we're getting bored with the routine.
Same old stuff for work, except that i got the other 2 colleages out for lunch together today.
And after lunch we decided it was too early to get back.
So we walked around and chatted.
But in the i still went back earlier.

At least there were things for my to laugh at today.
Something about the heavy rain and another about the toilet.
The toilet incident: I pushed opened the toilet door and caught a glimpse of an exposed undies of a girl using toilet who DIDN'T bolt the door. I slammed it shut and dashed back to my desk.
A seeming replay of the 'pizza hut' incident. Same thing happened then, but it was a little boy inside peeing.
Then my colleague told me that her sister who worked here last time went into the gents, since somebody was in the ladies. Then she didn't bother to bolt the door. And the boss opened the door. And.. Saw everything? (not too sure and i definitely won't ask my boss about it)

And continued typing and typing and drawing diagrams and figures.
Now i truly understand why there's so many typos in our econs lecture notes...

I'm currently working as an administrative assistant in a tuition centre.
I found my job through The Straits Times Classified, not Recruit Express (surprisingly)

I'm still quite new to my job so i don't want to update details about it now.
But anyway, here's my advice to those looking for temporary jobs from Classified, after having encountered numerous 'failures'.

1. Don't bother responding to dubious companies, eg. those asking you to promote a product or service through the internet or other unusual means (distribute flyers to companies, and get paid from successful calls)

I wouldn't like to mention specific companies.
I've tried at least twice, especially after my 'O' levels.

Don't even bother going down to the company.

2. Only look for the Temporary/Part-Time job section in Classified. Unless you really don't accepting a job like manicurist, otherwise look at the relevant section to source for jobs, although the range is reduced. It's better to go for one that specifies 'students welcome' or the equivalent.

3. Send your resume to many different companies. Spam them. Or call them if they left their contact number. Try to secure an interview slot. (usually decent companies would require a walk-in interview)

4. Prepare a resume template that is detailed, and includes the following as the minimum:
- name
- contact number
- email
- preferred work location
- expected pay
- citizenship
- gender
- status
- work availability and duration

- previous work experience
- educational background
- other relevant experiences: proficiency in ms word, powerpoint, excel, flash, bilingual/trilingual, illness/criminal record, etc.

(ok, this is for my future reference too)

Haha. I can't think of anything else to blog about but i wanted to go blogging. I shall try taking photos of my office tomorrow ((:
